"Panda Kid"
Watercolor
The giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is born extremely vulnerable, blind and almost hairless, before developing its iconic coat within a few weeks. Its first months are a slow discovery of the world, made of still-heavy movements and a deeply touching clumsiness. The characteristic black patches around its eyes and on its ears already assert its identity; its hesitant gait betrays all the innocence of youth.
The little panda is captured in mid-movement, cautiously stepping forward towards the viewer, its body gently swaying. The complete absence of background isolates the round silhouette and focuses attention on the candour of its expression: large dark rings frame a curious and guileless gaze.
