"The King Whisperer"
Oil on canvas
'Romeo' is the name of this superb lion of the Masai Mara in Kenya. This painting was inspired by a photograph taken by my friend Tony Crocetta.
I wished to render to this lion all the power and majesty of a king. Bathed in the light of early morning, the dust rising with each step, this lion represents for me all the magic that emanates from those fleeting moments of encounter.
But in the end, as the title of the painting suggests, the subject is not the King, but rather his counsellor who whispers in his ear.
