"Tlalamba"
Oil on canvas
Tlalamba is a female leopard from South Africa. This painting is a private commission. Across a panoramic format, she lies on a rock, relaxed and sovereign — her gaze fixed on the viewer without concession.
Long fascinated by leopards, this commission gave me the chance to paint this mythic animal once more. I wanted to portray her larger than life, with a posture both majestic and regal — at once languid and absolutely present.
The horizontal format follows the line of the recumbent body. The composition plays on the contrast between the placid horizontality of the posture and the verticality of the gaze — two forces held in equilibrium. The bokeh erases the background and concentrates all the light on the coat, on the precision of every spot, and above all on those eyes of a unique orange-green, deep and unforgettable.
A silent and magical dialogue between man and predator.
