"Sons of Oblivion"

Oil on canvas

"Les Derniers Frères" in an anthracite floating frame, two cheetahs in the grasses, panoramic painting by Stéphane Alsac
Statement of Intent

More than 90 per cent of cheetah cubs die before reaching the age of one. Females raise their young alone, in a world where every day is a threat — lions, jackals, pythons, drought, poaching, and the silent retreat of wild lands before mankind. Today there are said to be only 7,000 cheetahs remaining free across the entire African continent.

These two brothers are among the rare ones who survived. The male cheetah is exceptional: it sometimes lives in coalition with its brothers, and this alliance changes everything — it multiplies the chances in hunting, in defending territory. I wanted to paint that: not the threat, but the luck. Two survivors standing side by side, with a future still ahead of them.
