"Full Throttle !"

Oil on canvas

Hyperrealist oil painting of a running hare, Full Throttle! by Stéphane Alsac
Statement of Intent

There is something delicious about painting a hare 'at full tilt' — that popular expression that captures better than any other what I wanted to seize: a headlong dash, joyful almost, wholly absorbed in the moment.

This hare charging straight towards us, ears pricked, forelegs thrust forward — he has no plan, no agenda. He runs because that is what hares do. With everything he has.

This work was born from a commission. To paint for someone is to enter their world, to understand what they love and why. I worked every hair, every glint in those amber eyes, the lightness of his paws on the gravel — so that the person this painting was made for would find in it exactly what they were looking for: pure energy. Life that holds nothing back.
