"Hunting lessons"

Hunting Lessons – cheetah watercolour painting by Stéphane Alsac
Statement of Intent

The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is the fastest land animal in the world, capable of reaching 110 km/h in a few seconds. Females raise their cubs alone and transmit hunting techniques to them over several months.

The mother advances, tense, eyes on the group of impala to the right — the two cubs follow her, crouching, imitating her attitude without yet truly understanding. It is this moment of learning, at once familiar and precise, that the watercolour seeks to freeze. In the background, snow-capped Kilimanjaro asserts its presence — the setting is immense, the scene is intimate.
