"Serengit"

Serengit – panoramic watercolour of the Serengeti depicting a pride of lionesses watching the great migration, with zebras and giraffes in the background, by Stéphane Alsac
Statement of Intent

The lion (Panthera leo) lives in family groups called prides, composed mainly of related females. It is they who carry out most of the hunting, often coordinated across vast stretches of ground.

In the foreground, four lionesses in the grass — one standing on a rise scanning the horizon, the others lying or sitting at her side. Behind them, the Great Migration: wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, stretching to the mountains in the distance. The watercolour works at two focal lengths — the detail of the cats and the vastness of the panorama. The Serengeti seen from the inside, from their point of view.
