Watercolour portrait of a sitting dachshund puppy, black and tan coat — by Stéphane Alsac
Statement of Intent

The dachshund (Canis lupus familiaris) is arguably the most adorable dog — and one of the most formidable. Built for hunting underground, it is a remarkable hunter beneath its irresistible looks, with a strong-willed character that leaves no doubt about its personality. Elongated body, short legs, long drooping ears: an unmistakable silhouette. The classic black-and-tan coat, with its rich copper-tan markings on the cheeks, muzzle, and paws, is one of the breed's most iconic colorings.

The watercolor depicts a puppy with a mischievous and endearing gaze — slightly almond-shaped eyes that seem to know everything about you, and make you irresistibly want to cherish it. No prop, no setting: the background of warm-ochre and blue-grey washes leaves the scene bare, entirely drawn toward this small presence that has already won you over.
